About Anado
Anado McLauchlin is a mostly self-taught assemblage artist living south of the US border and across the tracks in La Cieneguita, Mexico. Oftentimes he is called an Outsider artist but prefers the term Insider artist. His creative endeavors include beaded jewelry, embellished whimsical furniture, celebrative be-jeweled mirrors, shamanic assemblages esoteric wall hangings and revelatory gardens.

In response to criticism that his work was too decorative from his art school instructors in Oklahoma in the late sixties, Anado headed for New York. He was part of the burgeoning downtown art communities in Soho, Tribeca, and the East Village in the 1970's.

As New York became more gentrified, Anado went to India where he spent many years living in an Ashram while experiencing a new meditative enrichment. Anado's interest in Asian art combined with his exposure to Native American shamanism during his childhood in Oklahoma percolated in this period of inner exploration. Hence, the term "Insider Artist" comes to fore. Before relocating to Mexico, Anado lived for fifteen years in Marin County, California. His studio was located in Sausalito across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.

His time in California was split between designing magnificent gardens and his many artistic pursuits. His clients included members of the film, music, and philanthropic community. The Sausalito studio was a favorite stop for collectors looking for art or furniture with an edge. Anado's delightful and ornate creations are crafted and brewed with the funky spiced finesse of a well-traveled seeker and provocateur. His pieces are collected internationally, oftentimes on a commission basis. He is in the process of co-creating with his partner Richard Schultz a mammoth installation in La Cieneguita, near San Miguel de Allende, Mexico - Casa Las Ranas.

This project is in homage to all outsiders, gardeners, and folk artists the world over. Anado's studio in La Cieneguita and the house and grounds of Casa Las Ranas are available for tour groups or private individual visits upon appointment.
